About
Limite is perhaps the great triumph of silent Brazilian cinema. The only film by director Mário Peixoto, it is an experimental and provocative masterpiece that has been rarely screened over the course of its troubled existence. The film finds three people - two women and a man - in a rowboat lost at sea. As they drift aimlessly, their dark pasts emerge through vividly rendered flashbacks.
Limite will screen from a restoration undertaken in 2010 by the Cinemateca Brasileira and the Cineteca di Bologna/L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory, in association with The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project, Arquivo Mario Peixoto, Saulo Pereira de Mello, and Walter Salles. The film will screen with the soundtrack provided by the restoration team, featuring Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, and others.
