About
光 (Light) 2019
In Light, Tsai Ming-liang returns to Zhongshan Hall, the setting of Your Face. The hall is a historically significant site in Taiwan, as well as a significant place to Tsai on a personal level, being the location where he once worked selling tickets for the Golden Horse Film Festival. His camera lovingly captures the exterior and interior of the building while tracking the ephemeral winter sun as it illuminates the chandeliers, balustrades and bricks.

你的臉 (Your Face) 2018
Ryuichi Sakamoto scores this mesmerising experiment in cinematic portraiture. Tsai Ming-liang films 13 faces in a series of unbroken close-ups, examining the details, imperfections and history in each visage. The subjects each respond differently to the filming – some sit silently, some chat about their lives – but in each instance the human face is rendered into an entirely singular landscape.
