About
Newly restored in 4K and returned to its full original runtime, King Hu's Legend of the Mountain is an extraordinary supernatural epic. A young scholar is tasked with translating a Buddhist sutra. As he journeys through the mountains, he meets two mysterious figures and soon reality and the fantastical — ghosts and the living — become one stunning sensorial synthesis. Shot in the South Korean countryside, Hu's film features some of cinema's most vivid depictions of natural beauty. It is a mesmerisingly languorous film that uses the cinematic language of wuxia that Hu himself developed in its exploration of spirituality, myth and worlds beyond our own.
