About
The lives and secrets of five married couples are exposed during the search to identify the body of a women found in dense Australian bush. At the centre of the investigation is Leon (Anthony LaPaglia), a detective having a mid-life crisis. In-between cheating on his wife Sonja (Kerry Armstrong) and battling chest pains, he endures a violent and frustrated existence at work. Sonja is also in trouble and seeks comfort with her therapist. Written by Andrew Bovell and adapted from his stage play "Speaking in Tongues", Lantana is more than a murder mystery or familial drama. It's an incisive study of distrust and denial within marriages – the troublesome garden weed of its namesake. It's a noir with soft edges, that explores the often dangerous sidesteps husbands and wives take to allay their pain when yearning for emotional and physical connections.
