There's trouble in paradise: L.A. Confidential explores the intersecting worlds of organised crime, law enforcement and celebrity in 1950s Hollywood. Based on James Ellroy's labyrinthine novel, Curtis Hanson's modern noir focuses on three police officers caught up in a web of violence following the arrest of a crime boss and the discovery of an escort agency using women surgically altered to resemble Hollywood stars. Detective Bud White (Russell Crowe) uses strong-arm tactics to catch his criminals, while his nemesis Ed Exley (Guy Pearce) plays by the book. Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey) stages busts with Hollywood's famous for tabloid journalist Sid Hudgens (Danny DeVito).
