About
Set in Thailand’s southern coastal region, the past, the present and the future mysteriously interweave through the worlds of the spiritual and real across this docufiction account of Krabi.
Krabi is a popular destination for tourists and business, where history and folklore attract the eyes of visitors, while locals labour behind the scenes to meet the influx and demands of mass tourism and industry. The landscape, the people and their stories are explored, while time and space seemingly start to merge and dissipate in this poetic travelogue.
A collaborative effort by filmmakers Anocha Suwichakornpong and Ben Rivers, the ancient and modern epochs of Krabi are captured with an intoxicating calmness, fluidity and allure, as established through meditative long takes and small revelations of narrative. The motifs of discovery, destruction and disappearance connect the vignettes, leading to a resounding investigation and realisation of one’s own sense of time and place in a constantly changing environment.
