About
War veteran Paul von Pryzgodski (David Bowie) takes on a new career wining and dining the bourgeoisie elite in David Hemming’s Just a Gigolo.
After returning home to Berlin following World War I, Paul von Pryzgodski, struggles to find employment and a greater sense of purpose. After relentlessly moving from job to job, Paul stumbles across an off-beat occupation as company for wealthy war widows.
Playing off his magnetic star-quality, Bowie delivers a charismatic performance as the dashing young escort and stars alongside a knock-out cast that importantly includes Marlene Dietrich, an iconic cinematic figure whose early on-screen appearances influenced the cover artwork for Bowie's 1971 'Hunky Dory' album. Despite appearing in several scenes together, Bowie and Marlene never met in person and filmed their parts in separate locations: Bowie in Berlin and Marlene in Paris.
