About
Directed by the award-winning Turkish-American visual artist and filmmaker Kutlug Ataman (and shot entirely on the artist’s smart phone), Hilal, Feza and Other Planets, tells the story of a young pro-Muslim student named Hilal who, after being discriminated against due to her religious views, forms a friendship with Feza, a transgender person who also faces discrimination and rejection from society.
Set during the aftermath of the 1997 Turkish miliary coup, Hilal, Feza and other Planets is poignant film that takes place during one of the most turbulent periods in Turkey’s modern history and shines a light on the challenges faced by those deemed to be on the fringes of society.
