About
Imagine a house that grows its own food. That’s the vision of Australian environmental campaigner Joost Bakker, who was once dubbed the ‘Poster Boy of Zero Waste Living’ by The New York Times. This inspiring feature documentary follows Bakker as he builds a self-sustaining home, an ecosystem that provides its occupants with water, energy, shelter and nourishment.
Internationally acclaimed chefs Matt Stone and Jo Barrett are the house residents and the aim is to be able to cook and live solely from what the house provides while holding down busy jobs as co-head chefs at a nearby restaurant. Maintaining the garden and produce should be sustainable alongside regular life commitments.
Across the documentary, Covid lockdowns, technological setbacks and an array of challenges are met with fascinating problem solving and inspiring approaches to making and storing food, trying new ways to bank energy and rethinking methods to live sustainably.
