About
Set in the subtropical idyll of Queensland’s Gold Coast, Goodbye Paradise finds former police officer Michael Stacey (Ray Barrett) authoring a memoir about the corruption he encountered during his time as a cop. With the funds for his book contract suddenly pulled, he takes on a job tracking down a stolen painting for a wealthy Senator – but soon finds events escalating far beyond what he could have predicted.
Sun-soaked and sleazy, this Oz noir uses the structure of a Raymond Chandler detective story to tackle police corruption and political skulduggery. One of John Seale’s key works in his breakthrough year of 1983, his camera plays the bright light(s) of Queensland against the shadowy intrigue of Stacey’s spiraling investigations.
