About
In a Korean fishing village, the newly married Hae-soon becomes widowed when her husband dies at sea on a fishing voyage. She joins a community of widows in the village but soon finds herself pursued by a young coal miner. Their liaison causes a scandal that brings chaos into both of their lives. Director Kim Soo-yong crafts a riveting tale of doomed romance that succeeds as both melodrama and as commentary on the social burdens faced by women.
