About
Director Stuart Gordon and producer Brian Yuzna, fresh off the release of 1985’s ‘Re-Animator’, once again conjure a mind-altering H.P. Lovecraft tale to life, where the human being’s senses are exposed to the abnormal forces of the unknown.
The story follows a mad scientist and his assistant, who have created the Resonator: a machine that allows those within its range to perceive a reality from another dimension. However, when their experiment succeeds, they are attacked by horrifying life forms from the beyond. Starring '80s horror icons Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, and Ken Foree, this Lovecraftian sci-fi horror dials up the expected shlock and gore to new limits, with Gordan being forced to cut his film by the MPAA to get an ‘R’ rating for its initial theatrical run. The film boasts a lean narrative of scientific experimentation, where moments of comedy, sleaze and camp are interspersed among the pink-tinged splatter, as the characters become magnetised by the Resonator's unconceivable sensations. Not for the faint of heart, this film, with all its monstrosities, must be seen to be believed.
