About
Yvonne Rainer’s groundbreaking second feature Film About a Woman Who… examines the emotional inner world of women, with a focus on the complexities of their intimate relationships. Rainer's film is a formally innovative portrait of a woman whose anger and sexual dissatisfaction in her relationship are split between her outward reticence and her inner anger. While her character utters few lines, her conflicted and passionate feelings are given voice in off-screen narration. Rainer subversively employs structures from soap operas, alongside experimental formal techniques, to probe how contemporary feminist theory meets the reality of modern relationships.
