About
Duvidha is an enigmatic masterpiece of Indian cinema that has been praised by the New Yorker's Richard Brody as "an extraordinary cinematic experience". Based on a Rajasthani folktale, it is the story of a puckish spirit who spies a newly married couple as they pass by the banyan trees in which he lives. Overhearing that the husband is to leave for five years on business, he takes the form of a man to begin his own romance with the captivating bride. Director Mani Kaul crafts a spellbinding supernatural love story that makes innovative use of freeze frames and modernist framing, with striking colour that recalls the exquisite imagery of Sergei Parajanov's The Colour of Pomegranates 1969.
