Drib 2017
Norweigan comedian Amir Asgharnejad plays himself in this unclassifiable docufiction, reenacting his doomed tenure as a spokesperson for an unnamed (but readily guessable) American energy drink. In an effort to sidestep the constraints of a non-disclosure agreement, Asgharnejad and director Kristoffer Borgli rebrand the drink 'DRIB' and tell the story of the ill-fated ad campaign in terms as synthetic as the product at its centre. What emerges is a treatise on the rapacious power and flimsy politics of 21st Century branding—a critique all the more potent for the legal sword hanging over its head.
The ever-present threat of corporate litigation (not to mention the stubborn refusal of his prankster subject to stick to the script) seems only to energise Borgli, who followed this film with the similarly spiky Cannes sensation Sick of Myself 2022 and the forthcoming Nicolas Cage vehicle Dream Scenario 2023.

Secret John Wilson Film 2016
From the creator of the acclaimed HBO show ‘How To with John Wilson’, this samizdat short finds the intrepid filmmaker tackling a number of pesky legal barriers as he examines the American justice system in characteristically droll fashion. Ultimately, the barriers won out, making this an exceedingly rare opportunity to catch one of Wilson’s most provocative works.
