Dreaming the End by visual artist Sin Wai Kin is a contemplative meditation on the illusory conditions of reality and the mutable nature of consciousness.

Set amongst the luxurious interiors of the Palazzo Ruspoli and the sculpture-filled gardens of Villa Medici in Rome, Wai Kin assembles a cast of otherworldly characters to ruminate on the construct of ‘name’, ultimately revealing an alluring web of fluid narratives. Part fantasy, part science fiction, the film echoes the narrative architectures of cinema to create an immersive reality free from the constraints of traditional binary associations.

In their practice, Sin Wai Kin brings together elements from science fiction, Taoism, Chinese dramaturgy, queer club culture and contemporary drag performance to create characters and universes that deconstruct conventional social narratives in favour of an authentic interpretation of self and our being-in-the-world. Through character and world building, they use speculative fiction to imagine alternate realities that posit an evolved state of humanity.
