About
Please note: the runtime for Dogville was incorrectly listed as 138 mins in the Australian Cinémathèque quarterly brochure. The correct runtime is 178 mins.
On the run from gangsters, a young woman flees to the small dead-end township of Dogville. Trading physical labour for refuge, she soon learns that goodness suffers when her rescuers begin to believe the risks are not out-weighed by the rewards. In homage to ‘black box’ theatre, Dogville is shot exclusively in the studio with minimal staging and props in Sweden. Divided into nine chapters, it questions the positive moral image of small town America and the hidden dark side of humanity.
