About
On the Mongolian steppe, 11-year-old Amra has a real chance of being selected to feature his folk singing on ‘Mongolia’s Got Talent’ and can’t understand the tensions of family and community life that have sprung up around him. Amra’s father Erdene is the leader of the local nomads opposing exploitive mining companies who dig for gold destroying fertile land and the nomads’ livelihood in the process. After a tragic accident befalls the family, Amra must reconcile his dreams with his awakening understanding of what is transpiring around him.
Brilliantly acted by the child actor Bat-Ireedui Batmunkhw who plays the film’s emotional heart Amra, Veins of the World captures the tenderness of the nomadic lifestyle and incredible beauty of the Mongolian landscape. The film takes on a more passionately political focus than the director’s previous films The Story of the Weeping Camel 2003 and The Cave of the Yellow Dog 2005 with director Byambasuren Davaa calling for international attention on corporation’s unrestrained profiteering in her beloved homeland.
