About
Marlee Matlin remains the youngest winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for her seminal performance as a young deaf woman in this powerful drama. James Leeds (William Hurt in an Oscar-nominated performance) begins a new job at a school for the deaf and hard of hearing. He meets the school custodian Sarah Norman (Matlin), who was once a star pupil at the school, and begins to pursue her romantically. While sparks fly between the pair, troubling secrets threaten to keep them apart. A critical and commercial success upon its release, Children of a Lesser God remains an absorbing and empathetic portrait of a blossoming romance.
