About
Wendy Hughes and Robyn Nevin star in this acclaimed adaptation of Sumner Locke Elliott’s Miles Franklin Award-winning novel. Set in Depression-era Sydney, the film follows the custody battle over young boy PS, whose mother has died and whose father is seeking his fortune in the goldfields. Taken in by his working class aunt and uncle, his world is thrown into disarray when another, wealthier aunt returns from London and claims PS as her own. Margaret Pomeranz praised the cinematography in a retrospective review of the film, stating “John Seale, you look at that you go: it’s no wonder he won an Oscar for The English Patient”.
