About
A documentary that will set your eyeballs fizzing, Brimstone and Glory captures the riotous and revelatory firework festival in Tulpec, Mexico. The festival celebrates San Juan de Dios, the patron saint of firework makers, with an explosion of colour, light and community. More than three quarters of the small-town work in pyrotechnics and the residents wield gunpowder with an artist’s daring and precision. With few interviews, director Viktor Jakovleski, instead opts for a dynamic and immerse style of filmmaking: his camera sidles up alongside firework crafters quietly preparing, then dashes headlong into fiery infernos and, surely a little singed, he turns his lens upwards to the glorious spectacle playing out in the sky against the stars.
