About
In Terry Gilliam’s dystopian black comedy, Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce) is a lowly bureaucrat, toiling away in an overwhelming totalitarian future. Beset by recurring dreams of himself as a fantasy warrior rescuing a beautiful damsel, he is startled one day to meet a woman who resembles her exactly – and soon entwines himself in a chain of events involving labyrinthine bureaucracy, grotesque plastic surgeries and terrorist attacks. Inspired by the literary dystopias of ‘1984’ and ‘Brave New World’, Gilliam’s nightmare vision is a visually resplendent triumph, featuring dazzling supporting turns from Robert De Niro, Bob Hoskins and fellow-Python Michael Palin.
