About
The debut film from renowned Australian artist Tracey Moffatt, beDevil is an anthology of three hyper-stylised and compelling ghost stories, inspired by tales Moffatt heard from her family as a child.
In the first chapter, ‘Mister Chuck’, a young boy is beguiled by the ghost of an American soldier buried within a swamp near his house. In ‘Choo Choo Choo Choo’, Moffatt plays a woman whose family is haunted by spectral trains that run alongside their house. And in ‘Lovin’ the Spin I’m In’, Imelda refuses eviction from her house in order to keep vigil for the spirit of her dead son.
Addressing themes of colonialism, and cultural identity, Moffatt’s use of non-linear storytelling and dreamlike imagery creates a haunting atmosphere that lingers long after the film's conclusion.
