About
…it remains the essence of revolutionary cinema: a film about a revolution, made as part of the revolution, in a revolutionary way. It is still a potentially incendiary work of art, very much concerned with the tipping point between mass obedience and unstoppable uprising. – Steve Rose, The Guardian
Battleship Potemkin features vivid framing of a downtrodden populace revolting against entrenched authority. The film was banned in several countries as it was thought to contain a genuinely subversive potential.
Screening in the 100th anniversary year of the Russian Revolution, Battleship Potemkin chronicles the Potemkin mutiny, one of the key historical events which lead to the 1917 revolution.
This screening will take place at The Old Museum, 480 Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills as part of the Brisbane Festival 2017.
