About
A key film in the influential Cinema Novo movement, Barravento (The Turning Wind) is set in the Brazillian state of Bahia and follows a young man who returns to his small fishing village after leaving to seek education in the populous capital city. Upon his return, he seeks to 'liberate' the inhabitants of the village from their mystical beliefs which he believes are oppressing them. A stunningly shot exploration of politics and belief systems, Barravento is a enthralling cinematic allegory from one of Brazil's most acclaimed directors.
