About
Antiviral envisions a world where butcher shops specialise in propagating meat slabs from the stem cells of celebrities and companies replicate celebrities' viruses and bacteria to sell to obsessed fans. It's Syd March's job – played by an unnerving Caleb Landry Jones – to select the most potent pathogens for his clients. This striking debut feature by Brandon Cronenberg, son of filmmaker David Cronenberg, is a sardonic exercise in body-horror and like his father, Cronenberg demonstrates an ambitious and distinct flair for the grotesque and subversive. It was nominated in the Un Certain Regard Section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
