About
“The loss of a language is a lot more than just the loss of words. It is also the loss of identity, spirituality, cultural knowledge and values. Using the latest 3D animation technology Indigenous stories and languages come to life. Wunungu Awara records the past, preserves the present, and protects Indigenous languages and knowledge into the future.” Monash University
a-Kuridi (The Groper) 2012
"This animation is told in the form of classic Yanyuwa Dreaming narration. The animation details the journey of the Groper (a-Kuridi) around South West Island. It describes the various other Ancestral Dreaming beings that she meets and her responses to them as well as showing acts of creation that are still highly significant today. The animation details the significance of place names, kinship and the role of song lines in story telling and their relationship to country. This animation is an outside, public, telling of a story that is very important to the Yanyuwa Wuyaliya clan." Monash University

The Spirit Men at Nalangkulurru 2019
"Animating country sometimes leads us to a deep understanding of the effects of colonial violence. This animation about a place called Nalangkulurru was once Wilangarra country, there are no Wilangarra people left alive, they were all dead by the early 1900s, we don’t even know what the language sounded like, but the elders of the Gudanji, Marra and Yanyuwa people remember the story for this place." Pittirrit and his story is an important story that connects the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape through Dhauwurd Wurrung language for the continuing connection to Gunditjmara country from our ancient ancestors to our community today and into our future.” Monash University
