About
An Angel at My Table will screen from an archival 35mm print.
The film that firmly established Jane Campion as one of the key auteurs of the late twentieth century, An Angel at My Table is an adaptation of the memoirs of renowned New Zealand author Janet Frame. Divided into three sections covering different stages of Frame’s life – childhood, adolescence and adulthood – the film follows her through the difficulties of her childhood, her misdiagnosed mental illness and subsequent institutionalisation, and the period of burgeoning success she found upon her release. Campion’s film was the first New Zealand production to screen at the Venice Film Festival where it was met with significant acclaim and brought its star Kerry Fox to international prominence.
