Soumitra Chatterjee plays Narsingh, a hot-tempered taxi driver who loses his licence after offending a high-ranking police officer. The event pushes him towards illegal activities and soon Narsingh finds himself as a drug smuggler, ferrying opium in his taxi. It is influence from an unexpected quarter that causes Narsingh to rethink his choices.
The Expedition is ultimately a film about what constitutes a good life and it is someone within the criminal mileau, the prostitute Gulabi played by Bollwood star Waheeda Rehman, who inspires Narsingh to reflect on his conscience.
