About
Acclaimed Australian artist and filmmaker George Gittoes visits the Australian Cinémathèque at GOMA for a special screening of his new documentary Snow Monkey 2015. Gittoes joins Peter McKay, Curator, Contemporary Australian Art, QAGOMA for a special Q&A after the screening.
Following the Q&A, the filmmaker will be signing copies of his new monograph 'George Gittoes: Night Vision'.
Snow Monkey documents Afghanistan after the retreat of foreign forces, at which time an internal power struggle begins. Focusing on Afghanistan's children, it features a 'Mad Max' world where a nine-year-old boy, who calls himself Steel, runs lower‑level organised crime. Snow Monkey is a beautiful, humane and deeply confronting story from one of documentary cinema's most visionary directors.
