About
Celebrating National Reconciliation Week and the 30th anniversary of Mabo Day, the Australian Cinémathèque and Queensland Theatre present a free screening of Mabo 2012. Directed by multi-award winning Rachel Perkins, the film stars Jimi Bani, winner of the Deadly Awards Male Actor of the Year in 2012 for his portrayal for Eddie Mabo, and Deborah Mailman, winner of Best Supporting Actress for Bran Nue Dae in 2010. It tells the remarkable life story of Eddie 'Koiki' Mabo; a Torres Strait Islander who left school at the age of 15, yet spearheaded the High Court challenge that overthrew the fiction of terra nullius. The film was produced by Blackfella Films with the support of the ABC, Screen Queensland and Screen NSW.
Seating for this free screening is general admission. As seating is still limited, we recommend arriving early to avoid disappointment.
