About
Two screenings with organ accompaniment by David Bailey of Vsevolod Pudovkin's celebrated 1926 film, Mother (Mat). Based on a novel by Maxim Gorky, Mother depicts a woman's struggle against the oppressive Tsarist regime. Following popular seasons in 2007 with live accompaniment of Buster Keaton, of the National Film and Sound Archive's restoration of The Story of the Kelly Gang 1906 and of extraordinary early Chinese film in Hong Kong, Shanghai: Cinema Cities, the Cinémathèque will again showcase this period of innovative film production which established film as a key modern art form.
