Library Access and Services
The Research Library is primarily for the staff of the Queensland Art Gallery. However, we provide information about the Gallery, its Collection, exhibitions and history to the public, students and researchers. Access to the research collection is by appointment. The Library's catalogue is available online, but loans are not available to the public.
Public
The Research Library is located on level 3 of the Gallery of Modern Art. Members of the public who have inquiries about exhibitions or art works in the Gallery's Collection may visit the Library, from 10.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. It is closed on weekends and public holidays.
Resources include reference material, such as encyclopaedias and dictionaries, auction records, recent sales catalogues and current Gallery publications.
As a reference library, loans are not available to the public. Limited photocopying is available for a fee.
Remote users
If you are unable to visit the Library, please contact us by telephone or fax or email library@qag.qld.gov.au.
Students
Primary, secondary and undergraduate students doing general art assignments are encouraged to check the resources of their own school, university or TAFE library as well as the State Library of Queensland before contacting the Gallery Library.
Teachers
Teachers who are setting assignments for students based on the Gallery's Collection or exhibitions can use the Library's resources by appointment.
Due to space restrictions, it is not possible to host groups of students in the Library. It is preferable if teachers contact the Library for information, rather than direct individual students to the Library.
Students doing general art assignments are encouraged to use their own school, university or TAFE library as well as the State Library of Queensland.
Postgraduate students and researchers
Postgraduate students and researchers can use the Library's resources by appointment or arrange for interlibrary loans through their academic library. The Library's catalogue is available online.
Please email library@qag.qld.gov.au or telephone the Library for an appointment. Photocopying facilities are available for a fee.
Conditions of access
Bags are not permitted in the Library. Bags must be deposited with the cloakroom attendant at the entrance to the Gallery.
