Holly Throsby (8.30pm)

Sydney musician Holly Throsby released her first album On night in 2004 (Spunk Records), which was recorded in a tiny cottage on Saddleback Mountain on the south coast of New South Wales. Her second album Under the Town (2006, Spunk Records), was recorded in the same location, with musical accompaniments provided by Tony Dupé.

In 2008 Throsby released her third album A loud call (Spunk Records), recorded in Nashville with featured guest performances by international musicians Bonny ‘Prince’ Billy and members of Lambchop and Silver Jews. Throsby is also accompanied on the album by her long-time band, The Hello Tigers (Bree van Reyk and Jens Birchall).

Throsby has toured Australia several times and played internationally in the United Kingdom, Europe, United States of America and Canada. She has supported international artists such as Joanna Newsom, Smog, M. Ward, Devendra Banhart, Paul Kelly, The Eels and Low. She has also recorded duets with artists including Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Sarah Blasko, New Buffalo, and Andrew Bird.

Throsby has been nominated for two Best Female Artist ARIA awards in 2006 (for Under the Town) and 2008 (for A Loud Call).

‘The dualism between hope and darkness is a potent tale in Throsby's story, as she embraces a new level of intimacy with her listener. She whispers with a newfound honesty […], posing questions which were not uncommon on her previous records. What has changed is romance – the once reserved Throsby who was seemingly afraid of her sheer talent has blossomed with her confidence.' (Tash Kassam, Oyster Magazine, 2008)
