21st Century Kids

18 December 2010 – 26 April 2011

For ‘21st Century Kids’, the Children’s Art Centre presents interactive art works and projects created by exhibiting artists especially for children and families. Spanning both levels of the Children’s Art Centre and throughout the exhibition, the projects encourage children to explore and discover the fresh and imaginative ways that international artists consider their world in the 21st century. The concepts behind the artist projects are expanded on in special art work labels that help young visitors engage with the works on display. Focusing on new technologies and interactive design, the artist projects presented continue the Children’s Art Centre’s groundbreaking program of contemporary art for contemporary kids.

21st Century Art for Kids

The Queensland Art Gallery launches its first children’s publication coinciding with the ‘21st Century’ exhibition. 21st Century Art for Kids is a richly illustrated book profiling art works, childhood images and stories by 16 contemporary artists from around the world whose works are held in the Queensland Art Gallery Collection. The publication explores the diversity of contemporary art practice in a format which is both appealing and accessible to children. Activities developed by the artists add a hands-on element for children to further engage with contemporary art at home or in the classroom. Read more
