JMA Architects Qld

John Mainwaring, the founder of JMA Architects Qld, is a well-known figure in Australian architecture, having played a key part in the development of the distinctive lightweight construction style of the Sunshine Coast region since the late 1970s. The work of JMA Architects Qld also reflects approaches to building and uses of space seen in Japan, Indonesia and South Asian cultures, reflecting Mainwaring’s fundamental belief that ‘architectural and urban design on the east coast of Australia must take its own direction as part of the western Pacific rim, balancing built Asian and European cultural influences’. During his career Mainwaring has lectured widely on architecture and urban design in universities and public forums in Australia and New Zealand, and continues to act as a heritage and environmental advisor throughout the country.
