Cox Rayner Architects

Cox Rayner Architects was established in Brisbane in 1990 and gained its first major commission — the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre — in 1994. This project preceded a number of competition-winning designs for public buildings throughout Queensland. The practice is also highly regarded for urban design and planning of major civic precincts, creating the first Brisbane CBD plan in 2005 and the master plan for the Gallery of Modern Art and State Library of Queensland expansion in 2001. Invitations for the firm to participate in international competitions have seen it awarded projects such as the urban renewal of Yichang in China (2002) and the Marina Bay Pedestrian Bridge and Urban Waterfront (2006) in Singapore. Among the practice’s design priorities are exploring how projects can make new urban connections, creating environmental strategies that can be visibly expressed and experienced, and utilising collaborations with artists and other designers to enrich the social accessibility of public spaces.
