Opening programs

Over the first weekend of ‘Picasso & his collection’ an exciting range of programs will be presented for all ages and interests.

Visitors need to purchase tickets prior to attending programs held in the ‘Picasso & his collection’ exhibition spaces, however, programs held in cinemas and other non-exhibition spaces are free. Please look for signage on the day for public program venues at GoMA. Programs include:

 

Saturday 14 June / 12.30pm / ‘Picasso and censorship’/ by Evan Hughes, Associate Director, Ray Hughes Gallery, Surry Hills, Sydney. Cinema B

Sunday 15 June / 12.30pm / Picasso and the influence of the ‘primitive’ / by Robyn Sloggett, Director of the Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation, University of Melbourne. Cinema B

Public programs

Visitors can enjoy a range of public programs emphasising Picasso’s work and relationship to twentieth-century art throughout the ‘Picasso & his collection’ exhibition.

Guided tours
Purchase your tickets and meet your guide just inside the exhibition entrance at 1.00pm or 2.00pm Monday to Friday and 11.00am or 12.30pm Saturday and Sunday. 

Hearing Impaired Tour

A guided tour of 'Picasso & his collection' for hearing impaired visitors.  Assistive listening devices are available.  As the number of devices is limited, bookings are essential.  To book, please call the Education Bookings Office on (07) 3840 7255 between 8.30am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday or email schoolbookings@qag.qld.gov.au

Talking about modern art series 
2.00pm Saturdays 28 June, 5 & 19 July, 16 & 30 August and 6 & 13 September, GoMA.
Free. No bookings necessary, however, seating is limited.

Learn more about modern art through this series of talks exploring the life and times of artists such as Picasso and his circle, and major developments in art history of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The series includes masterclass sessions chaired by series presenter Dr Mark Pennings, Lecturer, Visual Arts, Queensland University of Technology, and involving national arts professionals.

5 July / In-conversation / Lessons of the impressionists 

19 July / Lecture 2 /  Post-Impressionism and the colonial imagination

16 August / In-conversation / Picasso and the masters of Western art

Please note: The talking about modern art series is designed as a free lecture course and visitors are encouraged to attend all sessions. Educators are also advised that selected Look Out teacher programs on incorporating ‘Picasso & his collection’ into the classroom are held on lecture days. Teachers are welcome to attend the talking about modern art lectures following Look Out program sessions.

Guided tours for adults in French

Some of the world that picasso experienced and the main masterpieces of the exhibition will come to life through anecdotes...in French.

$21 for members/$26 for non-members (includes exhibition entry and guided tour).
