Daniel Boyd is engaged in the investigation of Australian history from an Indigenous viewpoint. Recently he has painted classical oil portraits of Australia’s colonial fathers in the guise of clean-shaven pirates, waterborne intruders and thieves. In King No Beard 2007, Boyd adapts Alan Ramsay’s portrait of King George III to his pirate theme, portraying his subject in a new light.
