The opening celebration of APT6 will feature reggae acts from across the Pacific, coinciding with the exhibition component of Pacific reggae.

Leading reggae musician O-Shen (Papua New Guinea/Hawai’i) headlines the event, which celebrates the vital connections reggae makes from Port Vila to Auckland and from Honolulu to Honiara.

O-Shen made an impact in Papua New Guinea with his 1997 debut and subsequently broke into the Hawaiian market with his 2000 album Iron Youth. His popularity throughout the Pacific rose with subsequent albums Rascal in Paradise and Rising Son, and his 2007 release 1 Rebel cemented his ranking as one of the region’s premier reggae artists.

One of three vital, multi-artist components of APT6, Pacific Reggae Sounds bring together live footage and music video to complement the performance program, and has been developed in consultation with Brent Clough (ABC Radio National/Nasty Tek/Soulmaker), who has a longstanding involvement with the reggae scene in Australia and the Pacific.

Additional bands and DJs will be announced closer to the date. The evening promises to be a rare opportunity to experience the unique rhythms and sounds of Pacific reggae.
