In 2007 the Queensland Art Gallery embarked on an acquisitions program with the generous support of the Xstrata Community Partnership Program Queensland.
The acquisitions focus on artists who were born, studied or now live in this state, enabling the Gallery to fulfil one of its core missions — emphasising the vibrant and diverse achievements of artists associated with Queensland.
These works include new ceramic sculptural works from Indigenous artists in far north Queensland and an important video series created collaboratively by one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists. Photography, painting and printmaking are also represented.
Many of the works have already been profiled at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) in Collection displays and in major exhibitions, including ‘The 6th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ and ‘Contemporary Australia: Optimism’.
With the support of the Xstrata Community Partnership Program Queensland, this significant group of art works has been acquired for the Gallery’s permanent Collection, to be enjoyed by Queensland communities now and into the future.
